  • An excellent school with many teachers who really care about your education. Well maintained facilities, students as friendly as you can ever expect with high school and then some. Excellent school.

  • (5 being a remarkable and supremely outstanding educational temple) Good kids. (Mostly) Good teachers. (Mostly) Good facility. (Mostly) Imperfect as other schools, but I love it anyways. Good place to get an education if you apply yourself.

I remember I used to go to school here, and it was terrible. It's been a few years, so I'm not sure if it's still like this, but when I went here this school had a bullying problem that was just completely out of control. The staff really didn't take the safety of their students seriously; I was actually receiving death threats, and I knew other people who were receiving death threats, and it wasn't even from the same people, which is even worse. Whenever I tried to approach someone for help, they acted like it wasn't their problem. In my senior year I had to decide whether or not it was worth it to risk my life by going to school. Is that what we consider coming of age in our society now? I honestly probably should have sued. Most of the staff are extremely disrespectful to the students, and some of them even bully the children themselves. They didn't really seem to care about the graduation rate, and a lot of people that I knew dropped out. I even knew a couple of people who dropped out because the bullying was so severe, and they were receiving death threats. Most of the teachers have a really mediocre understanding of their subjects, and some even promoted their religious and political values in the class. The dress code was also enforced far too strictly. I understand that they have to enforce the dress code, but they used it as an excuse to target students that they didn't like and attack their identity. I remember that after I graduated I had seriously bad self esteem for years. I know a lot of people who go to different high schools, and the kids from Layton High, on average, are usually less confident and less successful than kids who went to Northridge or Syracuse. The kids I know who went to Syracuse and Northridge loved high school, while the kids I knew that went to Layton High despised it. This school was also very filthy; the bathrooms weren't cleaned as often as they should have been, and the walls were usually covered with grime. High school shouldn't be debilitating like that and it definitely shouldn't be something that the youth of our community need to recover from, or something that they succeed in spite of; high school should be something that builds people up and prepares them for life in the real world. I probably learned more through self education and wikipedia than I did from this supposed "institution." Where you send your kids is your personal choice, but I would highly advise against it, and if I ever have kids I definitely would not send them here. Make sure to remember that this isn't some faraway issue that's "out there somewhere in the world;" this is real, and there's no reason that this couldn't happen to your children if you send them there. If you send your kids here it very well might be their failure. Most of the staff should probably be fired and this school should be defunded by the city. I would recommend sending your kids to Syracuse or Northridge, or maybe find a private school. This school is a sombering reminder of how little we value the youth and our future in our society.
